Gulyassy Custom Cues was founded by Mike Gulyassy, one of the most accomplished players and innovative cue makers in modern billiards. Mike began playing pool in 1968 at the age of fourteen and quickly developed a deep passion for the game. As his skills progressed, he spent nearly twenty years on the road competing in pool halls and tournaments, building a reputation as one of the strongest players of his generation through dedication, discipline, and a fearless competitive mindset.

Throughout his playing career, Gulyassy achieved numerous accomplishments. He won the BCA 8-Ball Amateur Championship (1982) and earned strong finishes in major professional events such as the River City Open and the Last Call for 9-Ball in Atlantic City. In 1985, he reached a top-12 world ranking, and later represented the United States on the Mosconi Cup team (1995 & 1996). Notably, during the 1996 Mosconi Cup, he handed Oliver Ortmann his only singles defeat of the event.

Mike began repairing cues in 1986, and his deep understanding of the game naturally evolved into cue design and construction. Drawing on decades of professional playing experience, he focused on building cues that deliver superior control, power, and feedback. His innovative mindset led to the creation of several influential products, most notably the Sledgehammer break cue, widely regarded as one of the most famous and respected break cues ever made.
