Tim Scruggs Custom Cues

Tim Scruggs Custom Cues reflects the legacy of one of the most respected figures in modern cue making, built on decades of experience, precision, and a deep connection to the game. Tim Scruggs first brought his machinist background into the cue industry in 1970, when he joined Joss Cues for a brief period before returning to run a pool hall. A few years later, he rejoined Joss with a renewed commitment, spending approximately six years mastering the craft and refining the skills that would define his career.

When Tim set out on his own, his early cues closely reflected his time at Joss—clean, traditional, and highly playable. However, it did not take long for his work to evolve into something distinctly his own. He became especially known for his full splice cues without joint rings, designs that created the visual impression of a seamless one-piece cue while maintaining the performance of a two-piece build. This combination of technical precision and visual simplicity became one of his signatures.

As the years progressed, Tim’s work grew increasingly refined and elaborate. While he always maintained a strong focus on playability, he also produced highly detailed, museum-quality pieces that are now considered true masterpieces. Today, many of these cues are highly sought after by serious collectors and players alike.

Beyond his work at the bench, Tim played an important role in shaping the cue-making community. He was a founding member of the American Cuemakers Association, earned the prestigious Cuemaker of the Year (2009) award, and was inducted into both the ACA Hall of Fame and the International Cuemakers Association Hall of Fame. He remained active in the billiards industry throughout his life, supporting and sponsoring professional players while contributing to the growth of the craft.

Tim Scruggs passed away in June 2015, but his influence continues to resonate. His cues remain a benchmark of American craftsmanship—valued not only for their performance, but for the legacy of a maker who dedicated his life to doing things the right way.
