Arthur Cue - Desert Iron 8-ptr Box
This is a striking Ebony and Desert Ironwood custom cue that brings together a classic traditional design with bold contrast and an exceptional level of detail. At first glance, the cue immediately feels elegant and substantial, but the closer you look, the more craftsmanship begins to reveal itself.
The cue is built around a deep, jet-black Ebony foundation, providing the perfect backdrop for the beautifully figured Desert Ironwood used throughout the design. The Ironwood carries rich reddish-brown and chocolate tones with natural movement and depth, bringing warmth to the otherwise dark and formal appearance of the cue.
Hundreds of years to grow, thousands of years to become timber. Growing slowly in the harsh desert environment of the American Southwest and northern Mexico, Desert Ironwood develops exceptional density along with deep, complex coloration and figure. Mature pieces suitable for fine craftsmanship are increasingly treasured, making beautiful Desert Ironwood especially fitting for a cue meant to last for generations. It is a truly remarkable material, known for its extraordinary density, durability, and incredibly slow growth.
One of my favorite features is the white wrap section with the large centerpiece inlay. Surrounded by the deep Ebony handle, it creates an immediate visual focal point in the center of the cue. The intricate dark design appears almost floral or sunburst-like, with Desert Ironwood at its center, tying the entire cue together. It is bold without feeling excessive and gives the cue an identity that is immediately recognizable.
The butt sleeve continues the same theme with Desert Ironwood windows set into Ebony, framed by fine contrasting borders. Elaborate geometric ring work appears throughout the cue, adding another layer of detail and creating a consistent visual rhythm from the joint all the way through the butt cap.
Overall, this cue is a beautiful marriage of timeless design, exceptional materials, and fine craftsmanship.
