Bob Owen - The "Golden Eclipse"

Here is another outstanding cue from Bob Owen, whose work speaks quietly but leaves a lasting impression the longer you study it. Built from beautifully figured Box Elder Burl, this cue is elegant, clean, and incredibly well balanced from every angle.

The cue carries a warm, almost glowing appearance, with natural burl movement that gives every section its own personality. Bob paired the burl with deep jet-black ebony points and sleeve windows, creating a contrast that feels both classic and sophisticated without ever becoming overly flashy. The inlays and ringwork feature shimmering Paua Abalone Hearts, adding just enough color and light to bring the design alive under changing light.

My favorite part of this cue is the design of the butt sleeve. The jet-black ebony and flowing white inlays surrounding the Paua Abalone Heart centers create a visual effect reminiscent of an eclipse — dark curved shadows wrapping around a glowing center of light. Against the golden tones of the Box Elder Burl, the design almost feels celestial, as if the dark ebony is slowly passing across a bright sun. It gives the cue a sense of motion and mystery that makes the entire piece feel alive rather than static. That is why I decided to name this cue Golden Eclipse.

The execution of this cue continues to showcase Bob Owen’s craftsmanship at a very high level. The ringwork is razor sharp, the veneers are perfectly even, and every detail feels deliberate and effortless. The ivory-colored Elforyn joint and butt cap add a timeless touch, while the Lizard Wrap gives the cue a rich, comfortable feel in hand that perfectly matches the cue’s refined character.
