This cue is built around beautiful Pauduk wood paired with four Black Palm points and a matching Black Palm butt sleeve, creating a very rich and naturally aggressive appearance. The Pauduk carries deep reddish-orange tones that almost glow under light, while the Black Palm adds dramatic dark contrast with its distinctive natural grain texture. Together, the woods give the cue a very organic and exotic look without needing excessive decoration.
One thing I really like about this cue is the texture and visual movement of the Black Palm. Unlike smoother traditional ebony, Black Palm has a very unique natural grain structure that gives the cue a more raw and character-rich appearance in person. Combined with the warmth of the Pauduk, the overall look feels very bold, classic, and player-oriented.
The cue comes with two Canadian Hard Maple shafts, and as mentioned in Mike’s introduction page, every shaft goes through a minimum of 15 years of aging and preparation before it ever makes it onto a finished cue. Mike’s cues are known for having a really solid, traditional hit with excellent feedback and consistency, which is a huge reason many players continue to seek them out today.
And of course, it’s important to remember that Michael Durbin remains one of the very few respected cue makers today who still builds cues completely by hand without using CNC machinery — something that traditional cue collectors and serious players truly appreciate.
