Built by Michael Durbin, this Fancy Merry Widow is a perfect example of why Mike Durbin’s work has earned such a loyal following among players who truly understand craftsmanship and playability. Known for building cues entirely by hand without relying on CNC machinery, Mike’s work carries a level of authenticity and precision that feels increasingly rare in modern cue making.

The forearm and butt sleeve are crafted from highly figured Pomelle Bubinga, showcasing extraordinary depth and natural movement throughout the wood. Under changing light, the Pomelle figure almost appears three-dimensional, with swirling grain patterns and shimmering texture that continuously shift depending on the viewing angle. The rich reddish-brown tones of the Bubinga give the cue a warm, luxurious appearance while still maintaining a very traditional player-oriented feel.

What makes this cue especially appealing is its balance between elegance and restraint. Rather than relying on excessive inlays or overly complicated ornamentation, the beauty of the materials themselves takes center stage. The black leather wrap anchors the design perfectly, adding contrast and giving the cue a very clean, confident visual flow from top to bottom.

The ringwork on this cue is particularly refined. Mike incorporated beautifully executed fancy nickel silver rings throughout the cue, adding just the right amount of brightness and sophistication without distracting from the Pomelle Bubinga itself.
