Mike Durbin - Quilted Maple Merry Widow
This cue is a perfect example of how beautiful simplicity can be when the wood selection is this strong. Built from highly figured Quilted Maple, the forearm and butt sleeve display incredible natural movement, with the figure almost appearing to flow like water under changing light. The warm creamy-golden tones give the cue a very elegant and timeless appearance without needing excessive ornamentation.
The cue is paired with two Canadian Hard Maple shafts, and this is where Mike’s cues truly stand apart for serious players. As mentioned on Mike’s introduction page, every shaft goes through a minimum of 15 years of aging and preparation before it ever makes its way onto a finished cue. That long-term process results in shafts that feel exceptionally stable, solid, and consistent through the cue ball.
The hit is classic, firm, and extremely confidence inspiring — the kind of traditional playing feel many experienced players continue to search for today. Simple on the outside, but built entirely around feel, balance, and pure playability.
